German Internet Access On It’s Way To Be Censored
16.04.09 – 00:27You may have heard about the activity of the german government to censor child pornography on the internet by use of a block list, just like it is being done in australia. Normally I would just post the link to the australian block list here now, that has been published on wikileaks.org some weeks ago, but since even the link on a potential block list may result in a raid by police in my very flat (that even is backed up by judges) , i’ll rather not do it here.
Me not posting this link because being afraid of police shows how heated up the current discussion about block lists, internet filtering and child pornography is. And my impression is, that child pornography seems to be a perfect reason to install a domain/ip-filter on provider level. Since the block lists are concept-wise intransparent you may not even notice when the first political sites get blocked …
Another step towards censorship is going to be this friday, when some big german internet provider sign a contract to voluntarily censor and filter websites based on a block list provided by german police.
It may only be a small sign, but the CCC is going to have a demonstration friday morning when the contract will be signed and calls for people to participate. Hopefully the press is going to just cover it a bit …
More Infos here
I’m going to be there and afterwards start my workday at one of the biggest german ISP.
