Awesome, I see you fixed all functionality (the knob wasn't working yet when you left, was it?). It was my pleasure to help you out, by the way!
If you're looking for a good, not ridiculously expensive soldering iron I can recommend the one I had with me at Music Hack Day, an Aoyue Int936. Despite its low price (< €30) you still get a stable and complete soldering station with temperature regulation. I bought it from a Dutch web store a few years ago, but I just saw that Amazon.de sells it now so it's probably available more widely than than it used to be. Keep on hacking!
